To ensure that the regional educational infrastructure responds to the industry’s evolving workforce needs, the BayBio Institute conducts workforce surveys and analyses to inform curriculum development and training for academic institutions in Northern California.

California Industrial Biotech Workforce Survey

California’s industrial biotechnology sector experienced record-setting growth over the last five years, according to results from the second annual statewide California Industrial Biotechnology Workforce Survey. Conducted by BayBio and BIOCOM in collaboration with Radford, the survey revealed that industrial biotechnology companies - those focused on biofuels, feedstock and bio-based industrial chemicals - grew 632 percent between 2006 and 2010.

The Industrial Biotechnology Workforce Survey informs the life sciences training infrastructure and demonstrates to legislators the potential for economic growth and job creation within the industry.
